Building Bridges with the Community
AWH College of Education conducted outreach activities as part of its community engagement program. AWH College of Education consistently engages in outreach initiatives that align with the vision of holistic teacher development.
During the academic year 2024–25, the college successfully organized and implemented 10 CBR programs in various community settings. These programs were designed and executed with the active involvement of faculty members and student-teachers, aiming to promote awareness, empowerment, and support for individuals with disabilities and marginalized groups in the local community.
Objectives of the Outreach Activities Programs:
- To extend educational and rehabilitative support to differently-abled individuals.
- To promote inclusive practices and community participation.
- To provide real-time experiential learning to student-teachers.
- Create a sense of responsibility for the environment in members and the wider community.
- To foster awareness of disability rights, education, and services among the general public.

The activities include awareness campaigns on disability inclusion, special education, and community participation, field visits, and family support services. Additionally, there are workshops and empowerment programs for parents, caregivers, and community members on inclusive strategies, as well as screening camps for the early identification of disabilities in children. Collaborations with local bodies and NGOs ensure the sustainability of services.
The program enhanced community awareness and sensitivity toward disability and inclusion. There was active involvement of student-teachers in real-life educational interventions. Linkages between the college and local communities were strengthened, and functional skills and access to services for beneficiaries improved. The community outreach programs conducted by AWH College of Education reflect the institution's dedication to practicing and promoting inclusive education. These initiatives not only serve the local community but also enrich the training of prospective teachers through experiential learning and community engagement. These practices stand as a model of how teacher education institutions can effectively contribute to social change and inclusive development.
